EEF Chair expressed concern for industry consultation in Brexit deals

This week brought us EEF, The Manufacturers’ Organisation’s conference followed by the Annual Dinner, and at the event speaker Chair Dame Judith Hackitt pressed the Government on the critical need for business to be closely involved in Brexit negotiations from now on – so negotiators properly understand the implications of their actions on Britain’s manufacturers as talks proceed.

At the event which took place Tuesday 20th February, she also stressed that Government must avoid creating new trade barriers, including complex customs arrangements, vastly different regulatory environments or standards in any Brexit deal.

British business needs continued access to people with the right skills if UK companies are to prosper. This means that while industry recognises broader public concerns over immigration, companies still need to retain access to the skills at all levels which EU workers currently provide and which cannot be backfilled easily in the short or medium term.
