TPEI adds new 5-axis machining center in response to increased demand for new rotors

Technical Process and Engineering, Inc. has made a major capital investment in equipment by adding a new 5-axis CNC machining center to help produce rotors for its continuous mixers. “The addition of this new large-capacity equipment gives us the ability to increase productivity and accuracy as well as develop and manufacture new rotor geometries,” said Harold Schafer, CEO at TPEI.

The purchase of the new equipment reflects the increasing demand from current and potential customers for new rotors. “The addition of this new machine, which went on line in July, means that we have a centre solely dedicated to manufacturing rotors,” said Schafer. “While the primary concentration will be standard style #15 and #7 rotors ranging in size from 1in (2.54cm) to 9in (22.86cm) diameter, the new equipment also gives us the capacity to manufacture up to 12in (30.48cm) diameters upon request.”

Standard turnaround (if not in stock) is 14-16 weeks, depending on material type and coatings. Materials include a variety of base metals ranging from alloy steels to tool steel plus a variety of chrome and carbide coatings. “By decreasing manufacturing time, we can maintain an inventory of “ready-to-ship” rotors,” said Schafer. “This is key to servicing our customers in the time frames they demand.”
