WEG broadens WG20 geared motor range with launch of compact WG20 S

WEG has expanded its WG20 geared motor range with the launch of the WG20 S, as the industrial equipment manufacturer seeks to broaden its gearbox portfolio with a more compact and cost-efficient offering.

The new WG20 S combines the efficiency of helical gears with the lower cost traditionally associated with worm drive gearboxes. WEG said the product has been designed to deliver low noise levels and a smaller footprint, while maintaining the reliability and durability expected across its gearmotor range.

The WG20 platform is aimed at applications requiring efficiency and robustness across sectors including conveying, environmental technology, intralogistics, food processing, steel, and mining. The range includes helical, parallel shaft, and helical bevel configurations, using a modular design intended to simplify integration into existing systems.

Available in five sizes, the WG20 S delivers torque between 130 and 1,600 Nm. Standardised dimensions allow interchangeability with other gearbox solutions, while high transmission ratios can be achieved within a single unit, broadening its use across different industrial applications.

The gearbox can be specified with a variety of output shaft options, including solid and hollow shafts, shrink disc, and Easylock systems. Multiple mounting options, such as housing, torque arm, and flange, are designed to support integration across different equipment layouts.

Marcus Erthal, International Sales & Aftersales Manager at WEG, said the launch reflected the company’s focus on combining performance with cost control. He added that the WG20 S was suited to operators seeking to optimise efficiency without compromising on reliability.

WEG said the gearbox’s high efficiency allows speed reductions of up to 400 times, supporting applications where space constraints and operating costs are key considerations.
