As DNA data plays an increasingly important role in solving crime, forensic scientists have traditionally taken sample collections by using swabs. However, particularly when gathering micro-particles from rough, porous or smooth surfaces, this has not always been the optimum solution due to the difficulty in obtaining samples. This situation has changed with the M-Vac Systems’ wet-vacuum collection technology which has enabled forensic laboratories and crime scene investigators to collect more DNA material in a single machine process that delivers a sterile DNA-free solution to the sample surface which is simultaneously recovered. The collected solution is then concentrated and analysed in downstream processes to create a potential DNA profile.
The DesignFlex PSF103 pressure switch is used for the solution delivery of the M-Vac System whilst the PSF109 vacuum switch is used in the collection process. With controllable hysteresis and wide-range field adjustable set point, the high current switches selected allow precision monitoring with fine and repeatable control for these important processes.
USA-based DesignFlex is part of the Word Magnetics Group. Its full range includes high sensitivity pressure, vacuum and differential pressure switches that range from 0.25 to over 4000 mbar. With a working life in excess of 10 million cycles, these snap-action switches are housed in tough moulded polycarbonate casings and have field proven success across thousands of applications in industry, agriculture, aerospace, and defence.
Variohm EuroSensor designs, manufactures or sources a comprehensive range of sensor technologies for linear and rotary position, load, force, vibration and temperature measurement in demanding applications throughout industry, agriculture, construction, autosports, aerospace and research.
