Critical Manufacturing, the MES software arm of ASMPT, has appointed Paul Straeten as Vice President of Life Sciences, strengthening its focus on the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device sectors.

Straeten joined the Portugal-based company on 24th October, bringing more than two decades of experience in manufacturing operations, supply chain management, and Industry 4.0 technologies. He previously held senior roles at Medtronic, where he oversaw large-scale MES and SAP transformation projects across one of the world’s most complex manufacturing networks.

During his tenure at Medtronic, Straeten led initiatives to enhance machine connectivity, real-time data integration, and automated vision inspection, driving operational efficiency and enabling broader AI adoption across the global supply chain.

Commenting on his new role, Straeten said he aimed to help life sciences manufacturers “advance operational excellence” through next-generation MES solutions and AI-driven process flows. “By leveraging advanced technologies and proven methodologies, we can unlock new levels of lean optimisation, quality assurance, and scalability in highly regulated environments,” he said.
