FORTEC unveils long-life industrial single board computer amid rapid embedded hardware turnover

FORTEC Integrated has launched a new 3.5-inch single board computer, the SBCPRO-X51, positioning the device as a long-life industrial platform at a time when embedded hardware cycles continue to shorten.

Announced in Germering, Germany, the system is built around Intel’s Amston Lake Atom x7211RE processor and is aimed at manufacturers seeking stable, configurable hardware for industrial and IoT deployments. The company, part of the FORTEC Group, said the board is designed to operate without a fan between –20°C and +85°C, with a focus on durability and uninterrupted 24/7 operation.

Stefan Zieboll, Product Manager Embedded at FORTEC Integrated, said the industry’s rapid turnover of platforms has created uncertainty for customers planning long-term projects. “The SBCPRO-X51 is deliberately designed differently: it is not a short-term trend product, but a robust base for industrial applications that need to run stably for many years,” he said, adding that the platform is meant to offer planning reliability for developers, purchasers, and Product Managers.

The company is offering a range of M.2 expansion modules, including a USB-C option that enables power, DisplayPort video, and touch input over a single cable. A V-by-One module is available for larger 4K panels, broadening compatibility from small TFT displays to large-format screens. Traditional industrial interfaces such as GPIO and serial COM ports remain on board, while connectivity options include two 2.5-Gbit Ethernet ports and optional Wi-Fi.

The Amston Lake-N Atom x7211RE processor is intended to support control tasks, Edge AI, and image processing workloads. The board accommodates DDR5 memory and offers three M.2 sockets for NVMe storage, wireless modules, or cellular connectivity.

Software support includes Windows 11 IoT LTSC and multiple Linux distributions, with FORTEC emphasising long-term maintenance alongside guaranteed hardware availability. The company is also offering a boxed configuration, the BPCPRO-X51, for customers preferring a fully integrated system.
