Industrial video systems are being pushed beyond recording and surveillance as manufacturers use increasingly high-resolution camera feeds for production monitoring, safety, anomaly detection and AI analysis.
NEXCOM is responding with a new rack-mounted network video recorder (NVR) designed to combine high-capacity local storage with processing and AI acceleration, reflecting the growing demand to treat video as an industrial data source rather than simply an archive.
The NViS 6712 is a 2U platform aimed at system integrators building video recording and analytics systems. It has 12 hot-swappable 3.5-inch hard-drive bays, providing up to 312TB of raw storage, alongside two PCIe NVMe SSDs and an additional M.2 SATA drive.
The split-storage architecture is intended to keep continuous video recording separate from applications requiring faster data access, including video management systems (VMS), databases, metadata and AI workloads.
That distinction is becoming more relevant as factories deploy cameras for applications ranging from production-line monitoring and worker safety to visual inspection and event detection. Keeping large volumes of footage on-site can also reduce the amount of raw video that needs to be transferred to central or Cloud systems.
The platform uses Intel Core Series 2 processors with up to 12 Performance-cores and 24 threads, with a maximum turbo frequency of 5.9GHz. A PCIe Gen5 x16 slot can accommodate graphics or AI accelerator cards of up to 250W, while an M.2 interface supports Hailo-8 acceleration.
NEXCOM says the combination can support workloads including object recognition, event detection, image analysis and intelligent video search, using technologies including Intel OpenVINO and Quick Sync Video.
The company is also positioning the system for emerging Physical AI applications, where large volumes of real-world visual data can be collected and pre-processed locally before selected information is passed to AI training or analytics systems.
“Video is becoming operational data that needs to remain accessible for monitoring, search, and analytics,” said Steve Yang, general manager of NEXCOM Smart Vision (GreenBase).
The configurable hardware is intended to allow system integrators to choose the combination of storage, RAID and AI acceleration required for a particular deployment. An optional riser, for example, allows a hardware RAID controller and compatible single-slot graphics card to be installed together.
