Stratasys has launched a large-format 3D printing system aimed at manufacturers looking to use additive manufacturing for production tooling, fixtures and other factory-floor applications.

The F870 FDM system, announced ahead of IMTS 2026 in Chicago, has a build volume of 1,000 x 610 x 610mm and a heated chamber designed to support the production of larger components from industrial-grade polymer materials.

The company said the system is intended to address applications where manufacturers have traditionally relied on machining, including assembly tools, inspection gauges, fixtures and other manufacturing aids. These components can involve lengthy lead times when produced using conventional processes, particularly when designs need to be changed frequently.

The F870 is currently being evaluated by manufacturers including Toyota Production Engineering in Kentucky and electric vehicle maker Rivian Automotive in Michigan. Early applications include automotive tooling, manufacturing aids and prototyping, according to Stratasys.

The system supports materials including Nylon 12CF, a carbon-fibre-reinforced nylon, as well as ASA and ABS. Stratasys has also introduced a new FDM ABS Draft material in grey for the platform.

The company said Nylon 12CF is intended for applications requiring a combination of strength, stiffness and durability, such as large tooling and fixtures.

The system extends Stratasys’ existing range of production-oriented FDM machines, with the company positioning the larger build capacity as a way for manufacturers to move additive manufacturing into a wider range of factory operations.

“Manufacturers are looking for proven solutions to speed up production, reduce cost, and respond in real-time to ever-changing supply chain and manufacturing requirements,” said Rich Garrity, Chief Business Unit Officer at Stratasys.

Toyota is among the companies assessing whether additive manufacturing can be applied more broadly across its production operations.

“We’ve already seen the value Stratasys additive manufacturing can deliver,” said Dallas Martin, Additive Manufacturing Engineer at Toyota North America. “The next challenge is expanding its use across more applications.”
