MEGATRON Elektronik has introduced a pair of unusually compact Hall effect rotary encoders aimed at engineers wrestling with tight installation spaces, expanding its portfolio with components designed to offer precision in constrained environments.
The MBA and MKA absolute encoders share a similar magnetic design, but are targeted at different integration needs. The MBA model features a solid shaft with an imperial thread, enabling straightforward mounting via a central thread and cap nut. With a housing diameter of 12.7 mm and shaft options of 3.175 mm, 6 mm, and 6.35 mm, the unit is positioned for applications where every millimetre counts. A MOLEX plug connection allows fast attachment or removal of the signal cable during installation or maintenance.
The MKA variant mirrors the MBA’s footprint but is supplied as a bearingless kit comprising an encoder unit, a mounting ring, and a slip-on magnet. MEGATRON says the modular format is intended to give engineers greater freedom to integrate the device into customised assemblies. The MKA supports shaft diameters of 3 mm to 6.35 mm, matching the MBA’s technical specifications.
Both encoders provide absolute analogue output in the 0–5 V range or a pulse-width-modulated signal. They operate at 5 VDC with a resolution of 12 bits, and offer an update rate of 0.14 ms for analogue output. The devices are built to withstand temperatures from −40°C to +125°C, as well as vibrations of up to 20 g across 10 Hz to 2 kHz. The MBA additionally offers IP40 protection on the shaft side and can be supplied with sleeve or ball bearings.
