Stewart Lane, Head of EMEA Business Development at Renishaw, has been appointed President of the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA), the UK trade body representing companies in the manufacturing technology sector.
Lane, who has been with Renishaw for 25 years, succeeds Tony Bowkett in the role. His appointment comes at a time when the UK manufacturing sector faces both challenges and opportunities amid a global push towards advanced technologies and sustainable production.
A graduate in Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Lane brings more than three decades of experience in industrial technology and leadership. Before joining Renishaw in 2000, he worked in quality and management roles for several French and Swedish manufacturers. At the FTSE 250 engineering group, he has held senior roles spanning design, quality, and business development, contributing to the growth of Renishaw’s metrology, encoder, and additive manufacturing (AM) divisions.
Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Lane has played an active role in industry organisations. He has served on the MTA Board since 2016, chaired its Education Committee, and represented the association on the Board of CECIMO, the European Association of Manufacturing Technologies. He has also chaired AMUK and CECIMO’s European AM Committee, advocating for the development of additive manufacturing across Europe.
Speaking on his appointment, Lane said: “I am deeply honoured to accept the presidency of the MTA at what is a critical time for UK manufacturing. The sector faces both significant challenges and opportunities. I look forward to working with member companies, stakeholders, and government to ensure that advanced manufacturing continues to flourish in the UK.”
James Selka, Chief Executive of the MTA, said Lane’s combination of technical knowledge and strategic vision made him well suited to lead the organisation. “Having served on our Board since 2016, his understanding of both the technical and strategic dimensions of manufacturing positions him well to guide the Association forward,” Selka said.
