Gossen Metrawatt unveils dual-function calibrator for field engineers

Nuremberg-based measurement technology firm Gossen Metrawatt has unveiled its latest handheld process calibrator, the METRACAL CM series, combining a high-precision multimeter and calibrator in a single device.

The new instrument allows engineers to simulate galvanically isolated sensor signals while measuring output signals of up to 30 VDC simultaneously, reducing the need for time-consuming mode switching. It can measure VDC, mA, mA-Loop, Ω, TC, RTD in °C/°F, Hz, and CPM, offering a basic accuracy of up to 0.015. The device also supports Bluetooth and USB data transfer.

The METRACAL CM features a dual display mode that shows input and output signals on a TFT colour screen, designed to accelerate balancing and troubleshooting in field applications. Its graphic menu system includes context-sensitive help screens, while a flexible signal generator allows calibration in manual, interval, ramp, or table modes. Four direct access buttons enable rapid recall of frequently used tests.

The software architecture is modular, allowing users to activate additional functions on site, such as HART communication, graphical history review, and extended sequence functions for complex calibrations. A quick-change battery or optional power module ensures continuous operation, while an integrated data logger with a real-time clock documents measurement series for audit compliance.

The METRACAL CM is aimed at process engineers, laboratory technicians, and service providers across the chemical, energy, and infrastructure sectors. It supports precise temperature measurements through temperature-compensated TC connections and a wide range of sensors. The device is supplied with a DAkkS calibration certificate and carries a 36-month warranty.

Gossen Metrawatt, part of the GMC-Instruments Group, develops and distributes measurement and test equipment for industrial, electrical, and public-sector applications. The group also operates a DAkkS-certified calibration centre and has development and production sites across Germany, Switzerland, England, and the United States.
