Beckhoff expands UK training capacity with new Huntingdon centre

Beckhoff UK has expanded its national training capacity with the opening of a larger facility in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, as the German automation specialist responds to rising demand for technical training in the industrial sector.

The new site, which replaces a smaller local facility, is 50% larger and can now accommodate up to twelve participants per session, compared with eight previously. It is equipped with upgraded audio-visual systems, modern training rigs, and flexible spaces designed to support both structured instruction and collaborative learning.

The expansion is part of a broader UK investment by Beckhoff, which has recently enlarged its Glasgow office and opened new premises at Alderley Park in Cheshire. The company said the combined effect of these developments will be shorter waiting times for courses and greater flexibility for customers.

“The new Huntingdon centre allows us to scale up while also improving the training experience with modern facilities and hands-on equipment,” said Etienne Phillips, Beckhoff UK’s training manager. “It demonstrates our commitment to closing the skills gap in automation.”

Alongside the expansion, Beckhoff is diversifying its training offering. In addition to its established PLC programming courses, the company plans to introduce new streams aimed at software developers entering the automation field. A series of continuing professional development (CPD)-style courses is also being developed, covering topics such as machine vision and object-oriented programming.

Phillips said the goal was to support engineers throughout their careers. “Our training is about much more than just teaching TwinCAT,” he said. “By offering both introductory and advanced courses, as well as manufacturer-agnostic CPD options, we can help engineers build skills that are transferable across multiple platforms.”

The new facility includes breakout areas, a canteen, and meeting rooms for up to 50 people, which the company said would encourage informal knowledge exchange alongside formal training.
