Baumer unveils rugged radar sensors for off-highway machinery

Baumer, the Swiss sensor specialist, has unveiled a new line of radar sensors designed for the rigours of agricultural, construction, and other off-highway machinery applications.

The R600V sensors offer rapid and precise distance measurement, with rugged housings, reinforced lens protection, and IP69K-rated sealing to withstand immersion and harsh environments. The sensors also feature a CAN SAE J1939 interface, making them compatible with a wide range of mobile machinery systems.

Baumer says the sensors’ capabilities extend to both ‘Ground & Crop’ applications, where superior penetration and ground detection are critical, and multi-object radar functionality that allows for tailored solutions in demanding operating conditions.

The firm highlights that the sensors’ robust design helps machines operate efficiently in extreme wind, temperature, and humidity conditions while protecting crops and reducing material usage, including chemicals and liquid fertilisers. Easy integration and proven signal processing, Baumer adds, can accelerate machine development timelines.

The R600V range meets a suite of industrial and automotive standards, including EN ISO 14982, ISO 13766, EN 13309, EN 61000-6-2, EN 61000-6-3, and EN 305550. Its 122 GHz design is accompanied by conformity declarations for key agricultural machinery, facilitating rapid commissioning.

Applications for the new sensors span combine harvesters, tractors, forage harvesters, sprayers, tillage attachments, autonomous field robots, and a variety of construction machines including pavers and rubbish trucks.
