Contrinex expands weld-immune sensor range with compact, high-durability model

Zurich-based sensor manufacturer Contrinex has unveiled the latest addition to its weld-immune sensor portfolio, targeting automated welding applications with challenging thermal and mechanical environments.

At last week’s Smart Production Solutions Exhibition in Nuremberg, the company introduced the Ultra Weld Miniature Flat Pack, a compact sensor measuring just 17 x 8 x 4.7mm. The device is engineered to maintain operational reliability in close proximity to welding arcs, spatter, and robotic machinery, where conventional sensors often struggle.

Housed in impact-resistant stainless steel, the miniature sensor incorporates Contrinex’s proprietary ActivStone anti-spatter coating, designed to protect against weld slag accumulation and thermal stress. According to the manufacturer, this ensures consistent performance even under high-intensity welding conditions.

The Ultra Weld Miniature Flat Pack offers flexible integration options, with high-flex cabling or pigtail configurations featuring LED status indicators. Optional PTFE protective tubing provides additional protection against direct heat and molten spatter. Standard cables are rated to 200 °C, rising to 260 °C when combined with PTFE tubing.

Contrinex highlighted the sensor’s suitability for constrained spaces, its mechanical robustness, and compatibility with continuous-motion applications. The company said the new model extends its already broad Weld-Immune Sensor Portfolio, which has evolved over the past 12 years.

UK distributor PLUS Automation said it holds more than 2,000 Contrinex sensors in stock, with additional European inventory to support short lead times. The firm offers consultancy on improving automation efficiency, reducing costs, and optimising machine performance.
