EGE launches IO-Link airflow sensor to streamline plant integration

EGE-Elektronik as unveiled a new airflow sensor designed to deepen its foothold in networked industrial automation, adding IO-Link connectivity and support for the Smart Sensor Profile in a bid to simplify integration for plant operators.

The compact device, which measures flow velocities from 0.5 to 15 m/s and temperatures between −20 and 70 °C in non-explosive gaseous media, is aimed at process industries seeking tighter monitoring and predictive maintenance. Five coloured LEDs at the cable outlet indicate operating and flow status. A PNP switching output is available in SIO mode, while IO-Link operation provides access to process data.

The sensor stores minimum and maximum values and offers a range of programmable functions, including hysteresis for limit monitoring, switch-on and switch-off delays, and a localisation feature that flashes LEDs to identify the unit within complex installations. Remote configuration and diagnostics are handled via the IO-Link interface.

EGE said the adoption of the IO-Link Smart Sensor Profile would give users a standardised, manufacturer-independent description of parameters and measured values, easing the task of integrating equipment and programming PLCs. The airflow sensor is offered in two variants: the LG 518 GPLS with an M18x1 threaded sleeve and the LN 520 GPLS with a 20-mm plain sleeve. Both come with mounting hardware and are installed directly in duct walls. If airflow at the edge is sufficient, the measuring surface can sit flush with the internal wall. The unit carries an IP67 rating.

The sensors will be shown at the SPS tradeshow in Nuremberg from 25th to 27th November 2025.

Founded in 1976, the Gettorf-based company develops sensors for automation, including flow controllers, infrared, ultrasonic and opto devices, as well as proximity and light-barrier systems. It also produces equipment for hazardous environments. EGE employs about 130 people, including 20 engineers and technicians, and reports global gross sales of roughly €19.5m.
