Solid State Disks has unveiled a multifunctional device designed to extend the life of ageing industrial computer systems by simplifying the cloning of legacy SCSI storage.
The DuplicatorPlus, available immediately, allows users to copy or clone the contents of most SCSI-based drives to CompactFlash media, a networked computer, or cloud storage. The unit ships with power and adaptor cables, enabling it to work with legacy 50-, 68- and 80-pin SCSI drives straight out of the box.
If a full clone is written to a CF card compatible with the company’s SCSIFlash drives, the solid-state card can act as a drop-in replacement for the original electromechanical device, requiring no changes to the host system.
James Hilken, Sales & Marketing Director at Solid State Disks, said that cloning involves a block-level transfer of an entire disk image, including hidden files, whereas copying refers only to individual files and folders. He added that the new device consolidates and expands the functions of two earlier SSDL products: a clone station and a dedicated card duplicator.
The DuplicatorPlus is compatible with the company’s Flash2GUI software, which allows users to clone an entire SCSI drive, duplicate only the formatted portion of a drive, or perform card-to-card copies. The device is supplied with a 32GB industrial CF card; higher-capacity cards are available on request.
Hilken said the unit addresses a growing need to maintain decades-old systems still in service across aerospace, defence, telecoms and manufacturing. By migrating data from mechanical SCSI drives to solid-state equivalents, operators can improve reliability and reduce power consumption while maintaining full system compatibility.
Founded in 1989, Solid State Disks manufactures solid-state replacements for obsolete storage devices, provides reverse-engineering services, and acts as a value-added reseller for memory products from Innodisk, Transcend and Western Digital/SanDisk.
