Zebra Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Zebra Technologies Corporation, has made a strategic investment in Apera AI, a developer of 4D Vision systems for industrial robotics, in a move aimed at accelerating the deployment of Physical AI in manufacturing and logistics environments.
The investment underscores Zebra Technologies’ broader push to digitise and automate frontline operations across supply chains, as manufacturers seek greater speed, flexibility, and resilience in increasingly variable production settings.
Apera AI’s technology equips industrial robots with real-time visual intelligence through its 4D Vision platform, enabling machines to perceive, identify, and manipulate complex components in dynamic factory environments. The system combines light-resilient stereo vision with artificial intelligence models designed to operate reliably amid changing lighting conditions, shifting bins, worn tooling, and irregular part geometries.
The approach is intended to address longstanding challenges in automation, particularly in unstructured production lines where traditional robotic systems struggle with variability. Apera’s platform supports tasks such as picking clear, reflective, or overlapping parts, using AI trained in simulated environments to improve adaptability and precision on the factory floor.
“Our investment in Apera AI is a strategic step toward a more intelligent, responsive automation future,” said Tony Palcheck, Vice President, Zebra Ventures. “We are committed to helping organisations reach new levels of performance through automated workflows, and Apera AI offers a powerful new approach which we are excited to support.”
Zebra Technologies already operates across AI and 3D vision technologies, including through its acquisition of Photoneo in 2025. These capabilities sit within its Connected Factory framework, which focuses on improving operational visibility, quality control, and workforce augmentation to support industrial digitisation.
With Zebra’s backing, Apera AI aims to expand deployment speed and scalability for customers operating in complex manufacturing environments. The company says its software-first approach reduces engineering overhead, shortens implementation timelines, and improves return on investment by minimising calibration requirements.
“Zebra Ventures’ support marks a major milestone for Apera AI,” said Sina Afrooze, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Apera AI. “We’re proud to play a role in the future of industrial automation powered by AI and vision-driven intelligence. We look forward to helping manufacturers standardise on vision-guided robotics faster, scale throughput, and protect uptime across their plant floors.”
