AVK has confirmed plans for its first standalone manufacturing facility in the UK, located in Haydock within the Liverpool City Region.
The site will assemble AVK’s modular LV/MV PowerPods, the pre-engineered, transportable power systems that energise the data centres underpinning artificial intelligence and the wider digital economy. Representing an initial investment of £3 million, the facility marks a significant step in AVK’s UK growth strategy and its commitment to building scalable manufacturing capability at home.
The facility is expected to create a high number skilled jobs in its first year, with the potential to grow even further as production scales in the coming years. Recruitment will span apprenticeships, graduate positions and skilled technical roles, building a long-term talent pipeline in a region with a deep engineering and manufacturing heritage.
Around three quarters of roles will be skilled technical and operational positions, including electrical and mechanical installation engineers, plant movement operatives and warehousing staff. A further fifth will be graduate roles across finance, facilities, production management and lean manufacturing, with the remainder dedicated to apprenticeships supported through a new partnership with St Helens College.
That partnership will offer structured work experience placements and MOET Level 3 engineering apprenticeships, alongside curriculum development designed to align training with real industry needs. Apprentices will build both electrical and mechanical skills across the full lifecycle of design through to installation, with clear progression routes into higher qualifications such as HNC and HND in mechanical or electrical engineering.
Haydock was chosen for its logistical advantages and established engineering base. Sitting adjacent to Junction 23 of the M6, the site offers strong connectivity for moving materials and complete PowerPods to customers across the UK and Europe, reinforcing the North West’s role as a centre for advanced manufacturing and the UK’s position within the global AI supply chain.
The investment lands against a wider national debate about the impact of AI on employment. Rather than displacing work, demand for AI is driving significant investment in the physical infrastructure that supports it, creating skilled jobs and long-term opportunity in communities such as the Liverpool City Region.
