Orbbec, the robotics and AI vision company, has begun construction of a major manufacturing facility in Vietnam as automation suppliers continue to diversify production capacity and strengthen global supply chains.
The company said it had broken ground on its new RVMC factory in Bac Ninh Province, northern Vietnam, a facility that will cover more than 100,000 square metres and serve as a key manufacturing hub for overseas markets.
The investment comes as demand for machine vision systems and intelligent sensing technologies grows across robotics, industrial automation, and AI-enabled devices. Industry suppliers are increasingly seeking manufacturing capacity outside China to improve supply-chain resilience and support international customers with localised production.
Scheduled to become operational in 2027, the Vietnam facility will manufacture Orbbec’s 3D vision sensors and smart hardware products for global markets. The company said the site would form part of a broader multi-site manufacturing strategy designed to improve delivery capabilities and reduce supply-chain risk.
The move follows the launch of Orbbec’s intelligent manufacturing base in China, which began operations at the end of 2024. The company said that facility is expected to achieve annual production capacity of millions of sensors while providing contract manufacturing services for robotics developers.
Orbbec’s technology is used across a range of robotics applications, including warehouse automation, cleaning robots, robotic lawn mowers, rehabilitation systems, and emerging humanoid robot platforms.
The expansion reflects growing confidence among robotics component suppliers that demand for machine vision and perception technologies will continue to increase as AI accelerates adoption of autonomous and semi-autonomous systems.
Vietnam has emerged as an increasingly important manufacturing destination for technology companies seeking to diversify production networks across Asia. The country’s established electronics supply chain and growing industrial base have attracted investment from companies looking to complement existing Chinese operations with additional regional manufacturing capacity.
Brent Chan, chief financial officer at Orbbec, said the project represented “a significant step forward” in strengthening the company’s global manufacturing and delivery capabilities.
“Going forward, we will continue to enhance our global production footprint and improve supply chain resilience through a multi-site manufacturing strategy,” Chan said.
