Semi-Kinetics, the California-based electronics manufacturing services provider, has been awarded the 2025 Global Technology Award for Most Improved Smart Factory, following a sweeping overhaul of its production operations. The award was presented at productronica in Munich in November.
The company, which serves aerospace, medical, industrial, and defence customers, has spent the past two years upgrading its Lake Forest facility with increased automation, real-time software integration, and advanced inspection technology. The changes have led to higher throughput, shorter lead times, and greater flexibility across complex programmes. Semi-Kinetics holds ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485 certifications, and is ITAR registered.
Central to the transformation is a proprietary ERP platform linking quoting, inventory, and production tracking. The system gives engineering, production, and customer-facing teams immediate visibility of orders, enabling faster decision-making and more predictable output. The factory now uses AI-enabled 3D solder paste inspection, synchronised SMT lines for line-to-line replication, and 3D AOI and X-ray systems to detect defects early in the build cycle.
Robotic placement and automated optical inspection have been introduced to handle high-precision tasks, with the company recording all manufacturing steps on camera to support traceability and rapid troubleshooting.
Semi-Kinetics has also expanded into in-house 3D printing, using a CreatBot desktop system for rapid prototyping and custom tooling, supplemented by laser cutting and marking equipment to accelerate NPI work. Its engineering team now employs AI-based design and process analysis tools to advise customers on manufacturability improvements, with every build digitally mapped from start to finish.
“Semi-Kinetics isn’t just keeping up — we’re setting the pace for what a smart factory can do,” said Michael Wayne Leedom, President, and Chief Executive. “This award recognises the work our teams have put into reshaping how we build, inspect, and deliver products.”
The Global Technology Awards, established in 2005, recognise innovation across the printed circuit assembly and advanced packaging sectors. Semi-Kinetics said it plans to continue expanding its manufacturing capabilities as demand for higher-reliability production increases.
